New York

New York

New York was a very fun and adventurous trip. I got to go through many places I haven't been to before while on a train which I also have never rode on. The best part was being with all my friends in which I love.

The first day in New York was a walking tour. I got to see a lot of cool and beautiful things. We got to go to the Rockefeller center. We went to a huge church and got to see where many people come to pray and worship each day which was cool considering I am a Christian. We also got to go to the Empire State building that night. We went to the 86th floor. It was such a breath taking view. We also went to see the statue of liberty which was cool because I have watched many history videos about it.

The second day was my favorite day. We rode the subway to go see a broad way play the Lion King. Despite that we got a little lost!!! My group made it and it was such a good show I have always loved The Lion King. After that we broke into groups to explore and shop in Time Square. My group ate at the Patzeria, and we got huge pizzas. Afterwards we went shopping and saw some really cool stores. We even stopped to see a group of dancers. I believe I girled all out when the forever 21 had 4 floors!!!

This trip was probably one of the funnest things I have done in a while and I have done a lot. I was surrounded by my best friends and some really cool teachers. I believe it is safe to say everyone had a blast. Even though I got little sleep and walked my feet off I wouldn't have changed the trip and fun we all had. I took many beautiful pictures and got to have some awesome experiences. My room mates and I had a fun and silly time in our room at night and two sleepy bright lighted mornings. We got lost going the wrong way on the subway and then again but whats being in New York without getting lost? Or twice.. maybe 3 times? We went to the wrong hotel and on the last night my group was cold and tired and Ms. Slawter and us got a little miss placed you could say. But it made the trip fun and a story to be able to tell. This trip didn't feel like oh its a school trip. It felt more like a this is what it would be like to be on 19 kids and counting feels like.

Roman Empire

Roman Empire
Geography: Rome had a cool and humid climate. The topography is multidisciplinary field of study that draws on archaeology, epigraphy, cartography, and philology. Rome had some natural resources such as clay, hydro-power or water, and timber. They considered slaves as natural resources. The clay could be used for making pottery. The Romans ate foods that they could grow such as vegetables.

Government: The way that it all started was with twins that were raised by wolves. Romulus and Remus. The three kinds of government were found tied together into one. Monarchy, aristocracy, and democracy were all found united together in Rome. At the heart of this government was the senate, a body of legislators chosen from a group of elite families. Patricians and the plebeians was the two broad classes they were divided into. The small group of aristocratic families and the plebeians, basically everybody else. The senate was sort of a mixture of legislature and giant advisory council. The main job was to set policy for the Councils. By tradition there were at least 300 members, chosen from the upper class of Roman society.
   The twelve tables:
An important victory for the plebeians was to force the creation of a written law code. With a written out law patrician officials often interpreted the laws to suit themselves. In 451 B.C., a group of ten officials begun writing down Rome's laws. The laws were carved on twelve tablets, or tables, and hung in the forum.

Achievements: The Roman Empire had many new techniques for building and construction of all types including Crete, their roads, Roman arches, and aqueducts. They had free standing sculptures, bronze castings, and vase art. Also had jewelry, and portrait paintings. An achievement was their language, Latin. The Colosseum was one of the greatest feats of Roman Engineering and a model for the ages. The name comes from the Latin word colossus meaning "gigantic." The Romans were very intelligent considering they could build all these big sculptures and have nice advanced houses to live in.

Social Class: The Romans were hierarchical. In the Roman empire slaves could not vote or women. Only free born males could vote. Women and slaves were expected to stay at home and clean and work. During the republic, everyone was excepted to be christian and follow the christian laws. The plebeians and patricians even after the 12 laws were created, were two of the most powerful groups.
Important people from Roman history:
Julius Caesar: a leader of Rome who fought very hard for the Roman Empire
Augustus: the most important ruler of the Roman Empire
Constantine: originally not a Christian, later converted to Christianity and got baptized
Scipio: came to plan to defeat Hannibal
Hannibal: did not want to join the roman Empire so he committed suicide

Migration and Religion

*write a myth telling about events that might have occurred as the Phoenicians sailed around Africa.*

The Phoenicians set sail around Africa. They decided to take the sea that they felt was the lucky sea. They traveled as they talked and made many ideas up. One of the men started talking about how they wanted to leave their legacy for the future but how? So together they put together what we call the alphabet. It was genius. As they sailed they traded and told about what they had done. They wrote about it on their journey. They became the legends everyone looked up to them. It was the best sail of them all they said as the wind blew in their faces

(Please note that this story is full of non factual information that may not or probably did not occur.)

Ice Man

  • He had 2 meals before he died
  • meat from ibex and red deer with grain
  • wearing shoes and goatskin made coat and goat skin leggings with a bear fur cape tied on with leather straps
  • 61 tattoos
  • was about 5'2 when he died but shrunk over the past 5,300 years
  • 110 pounds when he died
  • his mummified body is around 29 pounds
  • was 45 years old
  • probably had brown eyes
  • he died around 3000 B.C.
  • 3 faces of what he looked like
  • he has a "curse" people have died that have associated with him
Summary
Helmut and his wife were hiking when something caught Helmut's eye. He made the conclusion it was trash left behind. When he got a closer look it was a human body. Covered with ice that had started to melt. They were not sure if they were gonna report the body due to all the police questions they would get and ruin their vacation. They stopped for drinks at a near by lodge and that's when they decided to report the body to a worker. The police freed the body with doing that did make a few mistakes.

The Ice Man died around 3000 B.C. They say that he was injured during a battle or a fall before he froze to death. Some theories say he was accidentally shot due to the arrow they found in his shoulder. Others say he was being robbed for the items he had with him. His hand was injured so they say he could have fallen on his knife.

When he died he wasn't in the best health. He showed many signs of stress in the months before he died. His lungs were showing results from being around smoke from fires. He had a very small case of Lyme disease. He had very bad tooth decay and gum disease. So he was not in the nest health he could have been in.

Many people say the Ice Man has a curse. People that have had things to do with him have been killed and in bad accidents. One man helped put the body in a body bag the day of the finding a year later he was on the way to have a meeting about it and was in a bad car accident and was killed. One man made a documentary about the Ice Man and not long after died from a brain tumor.
